After a failed trip to try and track down Willow Tit somewhere in the area, this time Charnwood Water, I headed off to Cossington Meadows. A splendid pair of Shelduck on Tern Pool were the 90th species for the year.
Buoyed by this I tried a couple of small pools adjacent to Lower Marsh. I soon flushed my quarry – Jack Snipe – and was turning back to the path when a Bittern got up about 10m away. Cursing not bothering to take the camera I watched it head off towards Upper Marsh/Barber’s Rough (where one spent a few days 2 years ago).
