It’s Oriental, Prat!

After 17 years of hurt, I finally unblocked Oriental Pratincole yesterday evening at Frampton Marsh RSPB Reserve. I had driven home from Scarborough and dropped Leigh off before making the journey over to Frampton via the Wood Sandpiper on Wanlip Meadows in Leicestershire. Species 131 for the Soar Valley was almost as good as this little cracker.

I hope my photos show all the salient feature for separating Oriental from the very Similar Common Pratincole. Getting flight shots was particularly tricky especially when the bird came in closer the the 1.8m limit of close focus on the Canon 100-400 ISM lens.
