Celebrity Bird Spotters

Taken from today’s Observer. Not sure how committed some of them are…

  1. He’s missed out Martin from Coronation Street. Me & Gray-boy were on the same boat as him to twitch the Trumpeter Finch at Blakeney Point a few years back – and we then ran into him again at Lakenheath.

…..and don’t forget the boy Lard!

    Billy Bragg too, apparently.

There were a few more from Bill Bailey’s Big Bird Watching Load of Bollocks too but the less said the better…

  4. I’ve met Billy Bragg – after a gig at De Montfort Hall a couple of years ago, during which they did a bird quiz (which Mrs Llama and I won, hence the opportunity to meet him afterwards), but he didn’t seem to be that interested in birds himself. Maybe doing the quiz on that tour (The Imagined Village) inspired him to take up birdwatching?

Still jealous of you meeting Billy Bragg. The first time I saw him was at Salford University back in 1983 supported by Hank Wangford and Frank’s Chickens. I did have the honour of meeting Hank in Quorn a few years ago.

  6. For my sins I showed Ken Clarke a Red-necked Grebe at Rutland Water a few years ago!

Good old Red Ken eh! He’s probably the most left-wing politician left in the House of Commons… how sad is that?

Secondhand info re. Billy Bragg, so I might well be talking complete bollocks, but I know he’s been invited to this Birds and Culture event at the BTO in November. He does live in rural Dorset these days, so maybe he decided he had to find something to fill his days. I’m with John, though – very jealous of you meeting the great man.
