I Haven’t Got Wood, Cock

Out this morning with my brother-in-law Matthew as I had hoped to show him Woodcock. Dave Gray let me know of two showing well from Kingfisher Hide yesterday. As we arrived by the hide there was plenty of ‘seeping,’ ‘sipping’ and ‘chacking’ coming from the area. It was no surprise to see a Fox by the feeders and no birds.

After a while the birds settled back but Woodcock were nowhere to be seen, I did find one later hiding below a log pile but getting anything other than glimpses was difficult.

The Water Rail did do a few trips to the feeders but remained as wary as ever.

Kingfisher Hide must be the best place in Leicestershire to get close to this otherwise elusive species on a reliable basis.

Birds were pretty scarce around the area but this Fieldfare stuck around just long enough to make it to film.
