Halcyon Daze

After a night of heavy rain I was out again just after 06.00 on the hunt for that County mega or even good City year tick. The heavy rains had completely flooded Birstall Meadows and covered all the lovely wader habitat… mud.

A pair of Little Ringed Plover were loafing about looking a bit confused but apart from Mallard, Gadwall and two Common Tern there was bugger all else to see.

I made my way down to Aylestone Meadows. Here the river was very high and the local Kingfisher brought up 100 for the year list. Sadly the horse paddocks didn’t hold the longed for Hoopoe or even a Redstart or Whinchat. By 09.30 I returned home thoroughly fed up and put together some garden furniture…
