That’s sometimes how birding gets you. I find myself drawn back to certain birds and the welcome return of at least three Short-eared Owl at Cossington Meadows draws me back when I can. Today I had hoped to videoscope a couple of the birds but, although they were showing brilliantly they weren’t going to make life easy by perching up. When one did it was for seconds and then it flew… the wrong bloody way!
If you want to see the Owls, it’s probably best to be on-site no later than 15.00, this may involve a wait but at least you should get them in half-decent light. I’m informed that today they showed from 14.45. The birds favour the rough grass on Swan Meadow and The Moor.
Parking is best along Syston Road just east of the A6 at SK597130 and accessing via the main track.
