The Birdwatcher's Yearbook 2012

Another year and another superb edition of the indispensible bible for birders. It doesn’t matter whether you need to book a tour leader or find out the state of the tide to cross to Holy Island in Northumberland, this book has it all.

The features section is packed with articles as diverse as a celebration of the Scottish Ornithologists Club 75th anniversary to a review of the year’s best bird books and websites. The log charts are as up-to-date as possible but I was a bit disappointed to see that the log charts for Butterflies is still a bit out of date and doesn’t feature regular and scarce migrants. One of the most important features for me is the Directory again a lot of work goes into making this current – no small feat.
If you only buy one book this Christmas make this it.
