In need of a football fix this festive period I left out to Colwyn Bay for their local derby against Vauxhall Motors. As I arrived the game off signs went up so off birding then.
I picked out a Velvet Scoter with the Common Scoter flock off Pensarn Beach with a Red-throated Diver out off Colwyn Bay promenade. A quick stop at the Mercury Enterprise Park made me curse not taking the DSLR as the Short-eared Owl was hunting right by the road.
At Kinmel Bay the Snow Bunting flock were nearly all wearing their shiny new rings they got for New Years. Over at the Marine Lake in Rhyl the Great Northern Diver was cruising round and feeding pretty well on Crabs.
My last bird of the day was a Tawny Owl back at base… definitely quality over quantity today.
