This afternoon Leigh and I took Minnie for a walk and picnic at Staunton Harold. The church here was built in 1653 in a Gothic style. It’s a rare example of a church built during the Commonwealth Period following the English Civil Wars.
Sadly the church wasn’t open today. I’d never been here in my 20 years in Leicestershire but I doubt it’ll be 20 years before I go back. We took a walk round from the house and church via the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust’s Dimminsdale NR.
Plenty of wildflowers… most I have no clue about. There is, in late January and February, a large Snowdrop ‘garden’ here that I’ll be back to see as well. Just wish I’d know about it this year.
To finish we dropped in on Grace Dieu Priory.
