Muddle & Go Nowhere

Last weekend Leigh and I took Minnie for a couple of days in Norfolk… mainly for me to play trains and photograph the Diesel Weekend at the North Norfolk Railway. On the first day we hiked around Sheringham Park to the Gazebo for the classic shots with Weybourne and the windmill in the background.

One of the great things the NNR did was provide a DMU with a CCT ‘swinger’ for a DMU drag… recreating a reasonably common scenario of locos having to rescue a failed multiple unit.

Another popular event was using the English Electric Diesel Shunter 12131 to give Brake Van rides at Webourne. Fans of Dad’s Army might vaguely recognise Weybourne Station from The Royal Train, an episode from the sixth series first transmitted on 14 November 1973.

It looks a bit different today!

Some of the stock coupled with TOPS locos put me in mind of the Maroon Mk1 stock that Derby used to send out on holiday extras in the mid 1970s.

On the Sunday, I spent just over an hour by the A149 road bridge photographing passing trains.

The final shot is of a surviving M&GN Distant signal on the approaches to Sheringham.
