Eastern Delights

Finally got on to the PC to upload a bit of video of the Eastern Olivaceous Warbler taken on the iPhone 4S using the excellent Kowa TSN-IP4S adapter and my Leica Ultravid 10×42 Binoculars. I’m pleased with results… any shakiness was me in all my excitement of finally getting a life tick this year and it being my 450th BOU bird.

Here’s a couple of stills too. The first is not zoomed in on the camera, the second is zoomed in. No photoshoping done though.

Thy Kingdom Come

Yesterday morning we finally got the chance to head for my 450th British tick. Our friends Alan and Margaret picked us up late morning and we headed along the A90 to the Forth Road Bridge and the Kingdom of Fife. A few pretty villages further on and we were pulling up at Kilminning.

There were a few birders including an ASBO, and thankfully the bird was showing… and showing well as it fed hungrily; tacking and tail-pumping all the way. Eastern Olivaceous Warbler OMFL! Get in.

Having travelled to Scotland by train I had no real gear with me but the excellent Kowa TSN-IP4S adaptor works brilliantly with my Leica bins. I have got some video footage that I’ll upload when I get back home taken on the iPhone.

An added bonus, and what a way for Alan and Margaret to open their BOU lists, was a Barred Warbler that was feeding in the same patch of bushes an showing well for a Barred.

As a thank you to the Rintouls for driving we headed to the pretty coastal town of Anstruther for lunch and a celebratory pint or two in the Dreel Tavern.

All in all a great day out.
